Abstract(s)
Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), are characterized by progressive loss of neuronal cells and dysfunction of the nervous system related to various mechanisms, such as protein aggregation, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and neurotransmission dysfunction. In addition to cognitive reduction, there is also the loss of personal autonomy, making it impossible to perform activities of daily living such as nutrition and basic oral hygiene care. This study aims to explore the possible relationship between the presence of a neurodegenerative disease, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and ALS, and the development of pathologies or changes in the oral cavity. For this, a literature search was developed, using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. This research was submitted to inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 113 articles were selected because they were the most pertinent to the development of the theme.
