Objetivos: Avaliar as idades e os motivos pelos quais os responsáveis e as suas respetivas
crianças foram à primeira consulta de medicina dentária, assim como, verificar se essa idade é
atualmente a referida como ideal.
Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional com 61 participantes, através de um
questionário aplicado a utentes da consulta de odontopediatria na clínica JS Clínica Médica do
distrito de Viseu e na Clínica Pedagógica de Medicina Dentária da Faculdade Ciências da Saúde
– Universidade Fernando Pessoa, do distrito do Porto.
Resultados: A idade mediana para a realização da primeira consulta de medicina dentária das
crianças é de 4 anos e dos responsáveis de 10 anos. O principal motivo pelo qual as crianças
frequentaram esta consulta foi prevenção (67,1%) e os responsáveis por dor (54,1%).
Conclusão: Hoje em dia as crianças vão mais cedo às consultas de medicina dentária
comparativamente aos seus responsáveis e com o intuito de prevenir complicações futuras.
