A introdução da Inteligência Artificial (AI) nos vários âmbitos do trabalho profissional e áreas científicas é um desafio científico, para o qual os profissionais têm diferentes posições. A nossa investigação propôs-se avaliar o nível de sensibilização e adoção da inteligência artificial na medicina dentária, analisando também as perceções e expectativas dos médicos dentistas em relação à sua utilização. Além disso, procura identificar os principais obstáculos à sua integração nas diferentes áreas da profissão da medicina dentária. Procuramos, ainda, saber dos diferentes fatores que podem facilitar a sua adoção na prática clínica. Os resultados da nossa investigação são as conclusões surgidas a partir de um Inquérito a profissionais de medicina dentária. Verificamos um elevado nível de aceitação da IA nos nossos informantes. Esta atitude positiva reflete não só a crescente digitalização do sector, mas também uma clara perceção dos benefícios trazidos pela IA. Verificamos ainda algumas preocupações a nível ético, quanto às responsabilidades a nível de erro, ao consentimento informado dos clientes e à transparência dos algoritmos aplicados. Por fim, verificou-se que o êxito da integração da AI no âmbito da medicina dentária depende da capacidade de recursos financeiros e do acesso à formação por parte dos profissionais.
The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various fields of professional work and scientific areas is a scientific challenge, on which professionals have different positions. Our research aimed to assess the level of awareness and adoption of artificial intelligence in dentistry, also analysing dentists' perceptions and expectations regarding its use. In addition, it seeks to identify the main obstacles to its integration into different areas of the dental profession. We also sought to identify the different factors that could facilitate its adoption in clinical practice. The results of our research are the conclusions drawn from a survey of dental professionals. We found a high level of acceptance of AI among our informants. This positive attitude reflects not only the increasing digitisation of the sector, but also a clear perception of the benefits brought by AI. We also noted some ethical concerns regarding liability for errors, informed consent from clients, and the transparency of the algorithms applied. Finally, we found that the successful integration of AI in dentistry depends on the availability of financial resources and access to training for professionals.
