Na Medicina Dentária, informações específicas e personalizadas sobre o paciente são fundamentais tanto no diagnóstico quanto no tratamento. Nesta nova era digital, a integração do conhecimento da Medicina, da Engenharia e Ciência tornaram possível a existência de progressos tecnológicos desde scanners 3D, câmaras digitais, imagens radiológicas e softwares CAD-CAM que contribuíram para o desenvolvimento de diferentes técnicas de impressão 3D. A introdução da tecnologia 3D no consultório agiliza a atividade do médico dentista, com melhoria do fluxo de trabalho no consultório, na comunicação com os laboratórios e pacientes e com possibilidade de planeamento e simulação do tratamento com consequente previsão dos resultados. Para a concretização desta revisão narrativa foi elaborada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados eletrónicas PubMed, B-on e Web of Science, com o objetivo de rever e descrever as técnicas de impressão 3D, os materiais utlizados e as suas principais aplicações nas diferentes áreas da Medicina Dentária.

In this new digital age, the integration of knowledge from Medicine, Engineering and Science has made possible the existence of technological advances from 3D scanners, digital cameras, radiological images, and CAD-CAM software that have contributed to the development of different 3D printing techniques. The introduction of 3D technology in the office improves the dentist's activity, improving the workflow in the office, the communication with laboratories and patients and with the possibility of planning and simulating the treatment with consequent prediction of the results. In order to carry out this narrative review, a bibliographic search was elaborated in the electronic databases PubMed, B-on and Web of Science, with the objective of reviewing and describing the 3D printing techniques, the materials used and their main applications in different areas of Dental Medicine.
