Humanização na arquitetura hospitalar: a influência da configuração dos quartos na recuperação dos pacientes

dc.description.abstractA consolidação de uma medicina auto-suficiente e a conceção do hospital como máquina de curar, desvalorizou a sua dimensão humana e transformou o espaço hospitalar num mero suporte físico das práticas curativas. Desde o final de século XX, à abordagem puramente biomédica e sanitária, vem sucedendo uma abordagem de cariz mais psicossocial, um conceito de saúde mais complexo e multidimensional, que desloca o foco da doença para o indivíduo na sua complexidade e que defende um sistema de cuidados que respeite o doente na sua individualidade. Esta mudança de paradigma nos cuidados de saúde, em prol da sua humanização, reacendeu a importância de se refletir sobre a adequação do ambiente físico hospitalar, não apenas às práticas e equipamentos médicos, mas igualmente às necessidades de conforto físico e psicológico dos seus utilizadores. O objetivo desta dissertação é refletir sobre o papel da arquitetura na humanização do quarto hospitalar e as estratégias de projeto que podem contribuir para o tornar um espaço simultaneamente funcional, seguro e humanizado. A revisão bibliográfica realizada permite concluir que a humanização dos quartos pela arquitetura, compreendidas as necessidades biopsicossociais dos seus atores, pode ter um impacto significativo quer na vivência hospitalar, quer na forma como as pessoas enfrentam a doença e o tratamento. A investigação científica põe em evidência o impacto, positivo e negativo, do ambiente hospitalar nos níveis de stress experienciados e o potencial restaurador que certas variáveis ambientais, como a luz natural, a cor, as ligações ao exterior, entre outras, podem ter, inclusive, nos resultados clínicos.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractThe consolidation of self-sufficient medicine and the concession of the hospital as a healing machine has devalued its human dimension and transformed the hospital space into a mere form of physical support for healing practices. Since the end of the 20th century, the purely biomedical and health approach has been replaced by a more psychosocial approach, a more complex and multidimensional concept of health, which shifts the focus from the disease to the individual in their complexity and which upholds a system of care that respects the patient as an individual. This paradigm shift in healthcare, in favor of its humanisation, has rekindled the importance of reflecting on the adequacy of the physical environment of the hospital, not only to medical practices and equipment, but also to the needs of physical and psychological comfort of its users. The purpose of this dissertation is to reflect on the role of architecture in the humanisation of the hospital room and the design strategies that can contribute to making it a space that is simultaneously functional, safe and human. The literature review carried out leads to the conclusion that the humanisation of rooms through architecture, once the biopsychosocial needs of its actors have been understood, can have a significant impact on both the hospital experience and on the way people face illness and treatment. Scientific research highlights the positive and negative impact of the hospital environment on the levels of stress experienced and the restorative potential that certain environmental variables, such as natural light, color and connections to the outside world, among others, can have, including in clinical results.pt_PT
