Abstract(s)
Cardiac arrhythmia is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases and its etiology is multifactorial. Many dentists will encounter at least one arrhythmic patient during their career. This disease can have an impact on the success of dental treatments, namely surgical treatment. The aim of this narrative literature review is to find out how to optimize the management of these arrhythmic patients during oral surgery. We will see that the identification of the arrhythmic patient is essential to adapt the management, which can be specific. It is accompanied by a good knowledge and understanding of the disease and its treatments by the dentist, in order to be able to adapt the treatment plan, manage potential emergencies and the anxiety associated with them. Treatments for cardiac arrhythmias can be a barrier to oral surgery. Indeed, there are potential questions about the effect of anesthesia for example. In addition, there are questions related to drug interactions and potential bleeding risks in anticoagulated patients, as well as the possibility of an implantable cardiac device, which raises the problema of electrical interference that can be exerted by some dental equipment.
