Abstract(s)
Introduction: Orthodontics plays a crucial role in correcting dental malocclusions and harmonising facial aesthetics. There is growing interest in the relationship between dental positioning and body posture, particularly cervical posture, highlighting the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in orthodontic treatment. Objective: To investigate and analyse the relationship between orthodontic practice and cervical posture. Methods: A narrative review of the scientific literature was conducted, based on 58 selected articles out of 220, using defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The search covered databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, B-ON and Google Scholar, and included relevant scientific books. Results: Orthodontics shows a positive impact on cervical posture, although not through a direct cause-effect relationship. Evidence indicates that incorporating postural diagnosis in orthodontic assessments leads to more effective treatment. Various orthodontic appliances (removable, functional, and fixed) positively influence cervical posture, particularly when used during critical growth phases. Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment has a beneficial influence on cervical posture. Including postural assessment in orthodontic evaluation and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration can enhance treatment outcomes and overall patient health.
