Abstract(s)
This review aims to highlight the importance of irrigation in non-surgical endodontic treatment, with particular emphasis on the methods of activation of these irrigating solutions in order to provide a higher disinfection rate. Various techniques developed over the years, such as manual agitation, sonic, ultrasonic, XP-Endo Finisher and lasers will be discussed, illustrating their limitations and margins of success, with the final aim of comparing them. Considerable importance will be given to the most recent techniques like ultrasonic and laser activation. In conclusion, the agitation of the irrigating solution has proved to be an essential step for the success of the treatment, showing a certain predominance of the most recent techniques over the conventional ones. The methodology used for this study was a bibliographic search of scientific articles published in international scientific journals and websites between October 2021 and March 2022. The search engines used were PubMed/NCBI and Web of Science.
