Este trabalho tem como tema “Novas proximidades – Comunicação sem fronteiras. Um estudo experimental em freguesias dos Arcos de Valdevez”, sendo seu objectivo geral sistematizar os impactos das novas tecnologias na promoção do bem-estar do idoso e os procedimentos metodológicos do Serviço Social, neste acompanhamento. Com os objetivos pretende-se desenvolver o conceito GTW; identificar a importância do Serviço Social no acompanhamento destas tecnologias e sistematizar soluções de promoção de qualidade de vida dos idosos, tendo presente a combinação Tecnologia/Serviço Social.
A metodologia de pesquisa centrou-se numa abordagem qualitativa, com análise documental e aplicação de questionários a idosos. Posteriormente procedeu-se à análise dos dados e apresentação dos resultados obtidos.
De uma forma geral, os resultados indicam que cada vez mais a tecnologia aposta em respostas de combate ao isolamento e promoção de qualidade de vida dos idosos, e o envolvimento dos mesmos com esta tecnologia está a aumentar. Por sua vez, o assistente social pode ser uma mais-valia no desenvolvimento das novas tecnologias direccionadas aos idosos, na medida em que conhece de perto a sua realidade e individualidade. Quanto ao papel das tecnologias no acompanhamento do Serviço Social, concluiu-se que estas podem ser uma mais-valia como resposta na intervenção junto do idoso.
The present work is entitled “New proximities – Communication without boundaries. A case study in localities of Arcos de Valdevez”, with the general objectives of assessing the impacts of new technologies in promoting the elderly well being and the social services methodologies, in monitoring. The aim was to develop the concept GTW; identify social services importance in supporting these technologies; and systematize solutions to promote life quality in elderly persons, considering the combination Technology/Social services. The research methodology was based on a qualitative approach, with documental analysis and application of questionnaires to elderly. Data were then analyzed with the consequent presentation of the results obtained. In general, the results point out that technology increasingly offers answers to fight social isolation and promote elderly life quality. Likewise, elderly persons are increasingly using technology. Moreover, the social assistant may be an asset in developing new technologies directed to elderly, since they know up-close their reality and individuality. Regarding the role of technologies in the monitoring by the social services, the conclusion was that they might be a plus in answering elderly need of intervention.
