| dc.description.abstract | O presente artigo integra um número temático sobre as habitações unifamiliares – casas – desenhadas por Alcino Soutinho. Estuda-se a Habitação unifamiliar em Vila Nova de Gaia, de 1968, e faz-se a análise da sua arquitectura. Sem exaustividade, pretende-se dar a conhecer uma casa – a Casa de Gaia – que, embora com menção regular em publicações que coligem a obra de Alcino Soutinho, não tem sobre ela estudo aprofundado. Este artigo assume o contributo nesse sentido. Começa com um olhar sobre a formação de Alcino Soutinho, destacando alguns aspectos potencialmente informadores para a sua prática, desde que se matricula na Escola de Belas Artes do Porto até ao final da década de 1960. Nesse contexto, enquadram-se os debates maiores das décadas de 1940/50 no âmbito da Arquitectura – sobre o ensino na Escola e as vertentes que então se privilegiavam; e sobre o sentido da Casa Portuguesa, questionado sob as premissas e princípios do Movimento Moderno e do Inquérito à Arquitectura Regional Portuguesa. Segue-se a descrição da casa, que conduz selectivamente o leitor por alguns aspectos da sua materialidade. Em paralelo faz-se a releitura de alguns desses tópicos no confronto com duas outras casas – a Maison Louis Carré, de Alvar Aalto, e a Casa de férias em Ofir, de Fernando Távora – exaltando-se as influências mais evidentes. Conclui-se sobre a importância da casa de Gaia para compreender o pensamento criativo de Alcino Soutinho. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This paper is part of a thematic issue on single-family dwellings – houses – designed by Alcino Soutinho. The Single-family house in Vila Nova de Gaia, from 1968, is set as the case study and its architecture analysed. Although being regularly mentioned in publications that collect the work of Alcino Soutinho, this house – the Casa de Gaia – has no in-depth study of its own. So, without being exhaustive, this paper undertakes this contribution. It begins by looking at the training of Alcino Soutinho, highlighting some potentially informative aspects of it to his practice, from the time he enrolled at the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto until the end of the 1960s. Within that context, the major debates of the 1940s/50s within the scope of Architecture are framed – on the teaching at the Escola and the learning aspects that were privileged at the time; and on the meaning of the “Portuguese house” questioned under the premises and principles of the Modern Movement and of the Portuguese Regional Architecture Survey. This section is followed by a description of the house, where the reader is selectively guided through some of its material features. Simultaneously the re-reading of some of these topics takes place throughout its comparison with two other houses – the Maison Louis Carré, by Alvar Aalto, and the Casa de Férias em Ofir, by Fernando Távora – extolling the most evident influences. The final remarks state the importance of the Gaia House to understand the creative thinking of Alcino Soutinho. | pt_PT |
