Abstract(s)
More and more people are concerned about the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere, controlling energy costs but always maintaining the thermal comfort to which modern society is accustomed. One of the main causes for the excessive consumption of electrical energy in buildings is due to their poor energy efficiency. The thermal insulation is an added value, to reduce the annual energy needs of the dwellings. As a result, these materials allow for energy savings, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, such as savings in the economy. These systems allow a significant increase in the thermal inertia of the wall, reduce the thermal bridges, all being possible to carry out the works from the outside and without reducing the useful area of the fractions. With this in mind, in the following work, a historical introduction is made and an analysis is made of the various exterior insulation options of facades available in the market. The regulations in force at that date are also addressed. In this context, due to the increasing demand for this thermal insulation, a manual of procedures is proposed for their placement in order to maximize their profitability and efficiency. Finally, an analysis is made of a case study of a building, located in the historic area of Porto, where an external insulation system was installed.
