Abstract(s)
The developmental psychopathology, as study area in the origin and evolutions of the individual standards on the child and teenager behavior is an important area not only on the understanding of psychopathological functioning, but also, on the ways to prevent the psychopathology. Considering that the human development is represented in an ecological way, we have been seeing the development of studies that seek to understand systematically the psychopathology`s development. From among the variables associated to the family system, there are several studies that focus its attention to the family structure. Aiming to study the relation between psychopathology and family structure, we performed an observational study, descriptive, from a convenience sample constituted by children and youth that were having psychological support on a psychology clinical university in the north of Portugal. In this study participated 55 families with children aged between 6 and 17 years old (M=10.9; DP=2.9), 31 traditional nuclear intact families (56.4%) and 24 in a divorce or separated situation (43.6%). Concerning to the psychopathology (assessed through the Child Behavior Checklist for ages 6-18; CBCL, Achenbach & Rescorla et al., 2014), we checked that 63.7 % of the participants present psychopathology (for the global scale) being that 63.7% present internalization problems and 52.7% externalization problems. With regard to the study of the association between psychopathology and family structure, the obtained results allow us to conclude that these variables are independent variables.
