Abstract(s)
reumatoide.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that electively affects the joints. The cause is not yet fully known, but its etiology is recognized as multifactorial. Periodontitis is an inflammatory, chronic disease that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth, causing destruction, and manifests itself with the loss of the periodontal ligament, resorption of the alveolar bone and formation of the pockets. In this bibliographic review, six randomized controlled clinical studies were included in order to assess whether non-surgical periodontal treatment in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis results in changes in clinical activity and inflammatory markers of rheumatoid arthritis. Non-surgical periodontal treatment, in addition to improving the patient's periodontal condition, resulted in a decrease in clinical and laboratory variables associated with rheumatoid arthritis activity.
