Abstract(s)

Simple descriptive study within the quantitative paradigma. The data collection instrument used was the questionnaire. It took place in the village of Ponte de Lima. The sample consisted of 30 participants with an average age between 40 and 80 years. With this study and based on the discussion of the data it was verified that relatively the affirmations present in the questionnaire that operationalize the research questions are: In the statements regarding the cause of DM II, most of the sample agrees with the statements. The opposite is true in the claims that the cause for Diabetes is related to carbohydrate consumption, in which the majority of the sample disagrees with it. In the affirmations concerning the prevention of DM II it can be concluded that the majority of the sample agrees with the affirmations, except for the affirmation of the importance of a diet with intake of fractional foods throughout the day, in which it can be verified that the greater Part of the sample disagrees with it. Based on this analysis it can be concluded that the population lacks information related to eating habits that can cause or prevent Diabetes. These results highlight the need to continue to study strategies that involve the involvement of all diabetic and non-diabetic individuals and significant individuals in order to achieve health gains.
