Abstract(s)
Os macrófagos fazem parte de uma família celular muito heterogénea. Têm a sua origem nos monócitos sanguíneos que, ao atravessarem para os tecidos, se diferenciam em células especializadas com diferentes funções. É esta plasticidade ao nível da sua localização, morfologia, fenótipo e funcionalidade que torna estas células interessantes para o sistema imune.
Os macrófagos são células fundamentais do sistema imune, exercendo não só um papel de extrema importância no reconhecimento e eliminação de agentes patogénicos, mas também na reconstituição/reparação dos tecidos. Por outro lado estas células estão intimamente ligadas a processos patológicos, tais como, o cancro, doenças neurodegenerativas, aterosclerose, entre outras.
Os macrófagos associados ao tumor (TAM) apresentam uma ação antagónica, se por um lado apresentam uma ação citotóxica anti tumoral por outro podem apresentar uma ação pró tumoral, favorecendo o crescimento das células tumorais e a sua metastização.
Neste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo fazer uma revisão da atividade dos macrófagos, focando a sua plasticidade e dando ênfase à sua importância na relação com os tumores malignos e aplicação em imunoterapia antitumoral.
The macrophages are part of a very heterogeneous cell family which has their origin in blood monocytes when they reach the organs differentiate into specialized cells with different functions. It is this plasticity of macrophages derived from its location, morphology, phenotype and function that makes them attractive to the immune system. The macrophages are critical cells inume system, since play a fundamental role in the recognition and elimination of pathogens and in the reconstitution of tissues. The macrophages are closely related to pathological processes such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and atherosclerosis, among others. The tumor associated macrophages (TAM) show an antagonistic action, on the one hand exhibit an anti tumor cytotoxic action by another feature tumural pro action favoring the growth of tumor cells and tumor metastasis. In this context, this paper aims to make a macrophage review of the topic, focusing its plasticity and giving emphasis to its importance in relation to tumors and application in immunotherapy.
