Abstract(s)
The words hypnosis and hypnotism carry a negative semantic weight linked to prejudices, apprehensions or even fear, probably due in large part to the reductive associations related to ritualistic or artistic practices. In the same way and inevitably, Clinical Hypnosis becomes hostage to the same biases. These biases may not be restricted to the general public, but also extend to the scientific and clinical community. Thus, this investigation aimed to listen to psychologists in sharing their experiences, experiences, fears and preferences related to the application of Clinical Hypnosis in the field of mental health. Through the reports, it was also important to understand how this approach can contribute to clinical practice. A qualitative investigation was carried out, through semi-structured interviews, with open and exploratory questions, to psychologists who use Clinical Hypnosis in psychotherapeutic practice. In general, the results point towards the lack of knowledge that can translate into either underestimating or overestimating the therapeutic potential of Clinical Hypnosis. Nevertheless, there seems to be a positive evolution, of greater openness and respect in relation to Clinical Hypnosis, more accentuated in the public, in general, than in the professional class. In this follow-up, there was a tendency to fear negative judgments by professional colleagues. Finally, several advantages of the use of Clinical Hypnosis were listed, highlighting, for psychotherapy, the possibility of being integrated into various psychotherapeutic models. The issue of training offer, both professional and academic, and the regulation of the area was also explored.
