OR “Myofascial release techniques” OR “Myofascial release therapy” OR “Myofascial release treatment”) AND (“Back pain” OR “Low back pain” OR “Backache” OR “Lumbar pain”) AND pain AND function*.
Objective: To synthesize the evidence regarding the effectiveness of myofascial release in relieving pain and increasing functionality in patients with non-specific low back pain. Methodology: A computerized search was carried out in the Pubmed, Web of science, Cochrane Library and Lilacs databases, in order to find randomized controlled articles, published in English, Portuguese or Spanish, using the combination of keywords: (“Myofascial release” OR “Myofascial release techniques” OR “Myofascial release therapy” OR “Myofascial release treatment”) AND (“Back pain” OR “Low back pain” OR “Backache” OR “Lumbar pain”) AND pain AND function*. In the PEDro database, the following expression was used: “myofascial release” and “low back pain”. The methodological quality was analyzed using the PEDro scale. Results: This review included 5 articles that met the eligibility criteria with a total of 317 participants and an arithmetic mean of 6.6/10 on the PEDro scale. Conclusion: The LM technique appears to be effective in relieving pain and increasing functionality.
