Abstract(s)
Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug in the world. Several studies show its negative effects on the oral health of regular consumers. In this context, the objective of this work is to identify the main changes in the oral health of recreational cannabis users. To this end, a narrative review was made, based on a bibliographic search in databases such as 'PubMed', 'Google Scholar' and 'Scielo', using works related to the period 2010-2020, using descriptors according to each data base. Results of several studies show that cannabis users generally have worse oral health compared to non-users. A positive association was found between the use of recreational cannabis and periodontitis, xerostomia, caries, worse decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index and oral candidiasis, more frequent when the consumer also uses other drugs, poor oral hygiene practices and infrequent visits to the dentist.
