| dc.description.abstract | A fibromialgia é uma síndrome clínica reumática crónica, caracterizada por um quadro de dor musculoesquelética generalizada e uma multiplicidade de sintomas como fadiga, distúrbios do sono, alterações cognitivas, cefaleias e depressão, causando grande sofrimento e incapacidade no paciente. A sua etiologia ainda não foi totalmente esclarecida, prejudicando seriamente a elaboração de condutas terapêuticas realmente eficazes. Esta doença afeta cerca 2,5% da população, apresentando incidência máxima em mulheres jovens e de meia-idade. No entanto, esta condição pode afetar pacientes de qualquer faixa etária e género. A fibromialgia é uma condição clínica de etiologia multifatorial que somente pode ser diagnosticada através de um exame clínico que envolve uma anamnese e a análise de resultados de exames complementares de diagnóstico. Contudo, uma série de tratamentos encontram-se disponíveis, tanto farmacológicos como não farmacológicos. O tratamento deve ser multidisciplinar, individualizado, contar com a participação ativa do doente e basear-se em modalidades farmacológicas e não farmacológicas singulares ou combinadas. Embora os tratamentos disponíveis para a fibromialgia não permitam uma remissão completa dos sintomas, em geral beneficiam significativamente o estado de saúde e a qualidade de vida dos pacientes, não existindo até à atualidade cura para esta doença. O objetivo deste estudo foi reunir e sintetizar a informação disponível sobre a fibromialgia, principalmente no que se refere aos critérios de diagnóstico, fisiopatologia e tratamentos farmacológicos e não farmacológicos existentes. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Fibromyalgia is a clinical and chronic rheumatic syndrome characterised by diffuse musculoskeletal pain and other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive dysfunctions, headaches, and depression, causing great suffering and disability in the patients. The pathophysiology of fibromyalgia remains unclear, what seriously undermines the development of effective therapeutic approaches. This disease affects 2,5 % of the population, with a peak incidence in young and middle-aged women. However, this condition can affect patients of both genders and at any age. Fibromyalgia is a clinical condition with a multifactorial etiology, which only can be diagnosed by clinical examination involving an anamnesis and analysis of the results of diagnostic complementary exams. However, a number of treatments are available, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological. The treatment should be multidisciplinary, individualized, count on the active participation of the patient, and be based on singular or combined pharmacological and nonpharmacological modalities. Although the available treatments for fibromyalgia do not provide a complete remission of symptoms, they significantly benefit the health status and quality of life of patients. Even though, no cure currently exists. The aim of this study was to gather and synthesise the information available on fibromyalgia, especially regarding to diagnosis criteria, pathophysiology, and existing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. | pt_PT |
