Abstract(s)
social: a estrutura familiar, as mudanças ocorridas face à Necessidade Educativa Especial
No entanto
This study aims to investigate the way families reorganize themselves after their child is diagnosed with special needs. In this perspective, several dimensions of the social and family circle are analysed, such as the family structure, the changes that occur as a result of that diagnosis, day care, difficulties that parents experience, expectations for the future and support provided by the Early Intervention team. The participants of this study are 8 families who live in Peniche and have children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The study used a qualitative approach and data was collected through semistructured interviews to parents with children with SEN. Content analysis was considered the most appropriate technique for this purpose. A comparative analysis was also carried out, so results were compared to the ones obtained by other authors, namely Passos (2014), who studied the needs of families supported by an Early Intervention team from São Miguel, Azores. The findings suggest that families feel supported by the Early Intervention team, specifically regarding to family reorganization and potential doubts and questions. However, participants consider support time with children is insufficient, as most of the times therapy takes place once a week, for a 45-minute period, and children with SEN require more frequent support.
