A Mordida aberta é uma anomalia com diferentes características que são facilmente reconhecidas, presentes em 25% a 38% dos pacientes com tratamento ortodôntico. A mordida aberta anterior pode ser definida como a presença de um trespasse vertical negativo existente entre as bordas incisais dos dentes anteriores superiores e inferiores. Vários fatores etiológicos estão envolvidos neste tipo de maloclusão, como o padrão de crescimento facial, sucção hábitos, língua-empurrando, respiração bucal, Adenoide hipertrofia, síndromes, forças oclusais e eruptivas, anquilose dentaria, e desequilíbrio mandibular postural. A cirurgia Ortognânica é o tratamento de provável opção quando uma mordida aberta está associada a desarmonia esquelética severa. Este trabalho pretende demostrar, através de uma revisão bibliografica, quais são os factores que levam a uma mordida aberta e como pode ser tratada.
Open bite is an anomaly with different characteristics that are easily recognized, present in 25% to 38% of patients with orthodontic treatment. The anterior open bite can be defined as the presence of a negative vertical trespass existing between the incisal edges of the upper and lower anterior teeth. Several etiological factors are involved in this type of malocclusion, such as facial growth pattern, sucking habits, tongue-pushing, mouth breathing, adenoid hypertro-phy, syndromes, occlusal and eruptive forces, dental ankylosis, and imbalance Postural man-dibular. Orthognathic surgery is the probable treatment option when an open bite is associated with severe skeletal disharmony. This paper intends to demonstrate, through a bibliographical review, what are the factors that lead to an open bite and how it can be treated.
