Este artigo apresenta uma festividade sobre a qual muito pouco se estudou: a festa da Bugiada e Mouriscada de Sobrado, também chamada de São João de Sobrado. Trata-se de uma festa junina de Mouros e Cristãos, que tem lugar no concelho de Valongo, no dia 24 de Junho. Através de uma revisão bibliográfica que unifica, pela primeira vez, a dispersão das publicações sobre esta festividade, será possível identificar diferentes paradigmas da pesquisa etnológica. Com especial enfoque no século XX, esse mapeamento far-se-á pelo olhar dos estudiosos estrangeiros e portugueses que escreveram sobre esta manifestação cultural.

This article presents a festivity about which very little has been studied: the «Bugiada» and «Mouriscada» of Sobrado, also called St. John of Sobrado. It is a midsummer festivity which takes place in Northern Portugal (Valongo) on June 24th. Through a bibliographic review, which unifies, for the first time, a scattering of publications about this festivity, it will be possible to identify different paradigms of ethnological research. With a special focus on the 20th century, this mapping will be done through the eyes of foreign and Portuguese scholars who wrote about this cultural manifestation.
