Abstract(s)
Trafficking in Human Beings is a global problem that involves us directly or indirectly. It is a complex crime because, in order to be considered a crime of trafficking in persons, according to article 160 of the Portuguese Penal Code, it is essential that three stages occur, recruitment (action), transport (means) and exploitation (end). The objective of the study was to deepen the knowledge of the social perception about the phenomenon of THB and, specifically, for the purpose of sexual exploitation of women in the south of Portugal. A systematic review of scientific articles was carried out, investigations of different natures in various databases, using keywords on the subject under study. In terms of empirical contribution, a study was carried out with a population residing in the southern region of Portugal, namely in the Algarve. The sample consisted of 160 participants, aged between 18 and 75 years old. After obtaining the necessary authorizations, the “Human Trafficking Knowledge Questionnaire”, adapted and validated by Cunha, Gonçalves and Matos (2018), was used for data collection, via Google Forms. It was concluded that the female gender has a greater general knowledge of THB, that the higher the age, the more increases the knowledge of this crime, that the dimensions that demonstrate the highest level of knowledge were criminal idiosyncrasies and showed a low knowledge in TSH specifics in Portugal. Even so, there is a need for greater investment in training and the dissemination of information on the subject throughout the community.
