Abstract(s)
Smile is a plus in human non-verbal communication. The gingival smile is characterized by excessive gingival exposure in the spontaneous smile, and shows a higher incidence in women whose etiology is muscular, skeletal or gingival. The aim of this study was to demonstrate if the application of botulinum toxin reveals greater advantage used alone or associated with invasive methods in the correction of gingival smile. In this study, a bibliographic review was carried out using scientific articles taken from online databases such as PubMed, B-on, SciELO, MEDLINE, Allergan and Google Scholar. Among several treatment alternatives, gingival smile correction can be made using the botulinum toxin, commercially known as BOTOX®. The success of its use depends on the practice and clinical knowledge and management of patient expectations.
