A desagregação familiar precoce, por óbito de um dos progenitores ou de ambos, terá algum impacte na idade ao primeiro casamento dos filhos? E ao têlo, derivará consoante determinados critérios? Como a morte do progenitor ser a do pai ou ser a da mãe? O nubente ser homem ou ser mulher? Consoante as origens geográficas dos nubentes? A percepção destas diferenças, ao existirem, é de grande importância e permite perceber a influência da mortalidade, das migrações e da nupcialidade em relação à diminuição da capacidade reprodutiva, quase sempre, associada à generalização de métodos contraceptivos, no caso português, com ênfase a partir dos anos quarenta do século XX. O artigo tem por base documental os registos de casamento de uma comunidade urbana na cidade do Porto entre 1940 e 1969 e insere-se no âmbito de uma investigação mais vasta sobre as causas da Transição Demográfica em Portugal, tendo por objectivo, nomeadamente, perceber se os comportamentos entre naturais e migrantes residentes no espaço em observação oscilam em função das variáveis consideradas. Such as the dead progenitor being father or mother? By sex of those who married? By geographical origins of those who married? The differences, if they exist, have a high importance. Their study gives the possibility to understand the mortality, the migrations and the marriage influence on the decrease in the reproduction capacity of the populations, normally, exclusively associated to the contraception generalization, in the case of Portugal since 1940 until now. The manuscript is supported by the marriage registration data base from an urban community in Porto between 1940 and 1969 and is part of a larger research about the reasons of Demographic Transition in Portugal. This has as objective to understand if demographic and social comportments of migrants comparing with the urban naturals are dependent on the considered variables.
