Abstract(s)
A pesquisa originou 963 artigos, tendo sido selecionados 21 artigos.
Introduction: Currently, there is a growing concern in combining the planning of the sports season, in addition to the training plan, with a food plan that suits athletes' nutritional needs and sporting goals. Nutrition has proven to be fundamental for good performance in competitions, making it increasingly a priority for athletes, coaches and everyone else involved in. Objective: To make a brief literature review on the role of nutrition in athletes in high-performance competitions, namely the Olympic Games. Methods: A bibliographical search was carried out in the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases, between December 2022 and September 2023, using the terms: “food” OR “nutrition” AND “Olympic” as keywords. The research resulted in 963 articles, with 21 articles selected. Results: Nutrition, when well applied and followed rigorously by the athlete can provide the adequate energy and nutrients for a good general health maintenance and athletic performance. Energy needs must be assessed athlete by athlete as each individual has different nutritional needs, biological rhythms and sport demands. Female athletes have their own characteristics that differ from male athletes, such as hormonal fluctuations related to the menstrual cycle that alter their energy needs, highlighting the role of carbohydrates in hormonal balance, providing energy for aerobic metabolism. anaerobic and, on the other hand, a lower respiratory exchange rate, requiring a higher fat content through diet. Conclusion: An Olympic athlete, who follows an individualized nutritional plan according to her/his needs can improve athletic performance and reach high achivements.
