Abstract(s)
According to the World Health Organization (2007) Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of disability and premature death worldwide, and contribute substantially to the rising costs of health care, and a second survey conducted by the “Instituto Nacional de Estatística” (2006), in Portugal, "14.9% of the population reported having hypertension," has been the chronic disease which recorded the highest prevalence. Since health promotion and disease prevention are a competence of nursing, and hypertension a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and since the students of the fourth year of the degree in Nursing at the Fernando Pessoa University are to finish the course and become professionals in nursing, we thought appropriate to know what is the opinion of the students of the fourth year Degree Course in Nursing at the Fernando Pessoa University in relation to the importance of formation on Hypertension. In order to accomplish this graduation project, we defined as a research strategy the using of a quantitative approach and the use of an exploratory-descriptive approach. According to the results obtained with this graduation project is noteworthy that, despite concluding that the formation received was sufficient, good or very good, most respondents believe that a component should be inserted more directed towards nursing care, and consider that this matter should be addressed in a more targeted way.
