Abstract(s)
Backgrond: the history of bronchiolitis it is considered a risk factor for the development of cardiorespiratory chronic diseases, able of reflecting low levels of physical fitness. Objective: in this study we have the objective to analyze the influence of the history of bronchiolitis on health-related physical fitness in children and adolescents soccer practitioners. Methods: we considered 86 athletes between 7-14 years, males, divided into two groups with and without history of bronchiolitis. The tests used were: five times sit to stand (5TSTS), handgrip strength test, the strength maxim test of quadriceps muscle (MicroFET dynamometer) and the six-minute walk test (6MWT). Results: the biological and sport practice variables in both groups were homogeneous (0.168<p<0.853). No differences in the strength tests were observed (0.665<p<0.927). Nevertheless, a greater distance covered in the 6MWT was verified in the group without bronchiolitis and this seems to reproduce a protective factor in the group without bronchiolitis with an odds ratio to 0.99. Conclusion: the history of bronchiolitis seems to influence cardiorespiratory fitness, but not peripheral strength muscle.
