Abstract(s)
A violência contra idosos é uma problemática grave que requer atenção e intervenção por parte da sociedade. Neste sentido, é essencial que a comunidade, em conjunto com as instituições públicas e privadas, desenvolva estratégias integradas e eficazes para a prevenção, deteção e combate a tais práticas. A dignidade e o respeito pelo envelhecimento devem ser pilares centrais em qualquer sociedade que se preze. Fomentar uma cultura de respeito, empatia e valorização da população mais velha é não só um dever, mas também um indicador da maturidade e humanidade de um país. Afinal, todos aspiramos alcançar uma idade avançada, e devemos garantir que esta fase da vida seja vivida com tranquilidade, segurança e bem-estar.
Apesar de todos esses princípios e aspirações, é lamentável e alarmante constatar que a violência contra esta população tem vindo a acontecer com frequência, muitas vezes em ambientes onde deveriam sentir-se mais protegidos, como é o caso das suas próprias casas ou em instituições destinadas ao seu cuidado. Este paradoxo revela não só falhas nas estruturas de apoio e proteção, como também reflete a persistência de estereótipos negativos e atitudes discriminatórias em relação ao envelhecimento.
Nesse sentido, o presente projeto lança-se na proposta de um trabalho empírico cujo objetivo central é compreender e analisar as manifestações e as consequências da violência contra idosos, tanto em contextos institucionais como domésticos. A pertinência deste estudo radica na urgência de desvendar e aprofundar as dinâmicas subjacentes a estas situações de violência, de modo a propiciar uma intervenção mais eficaz e informada. Através da compreensão profunda destas dinâmicas, espera-se contribuir para o desenvolvimento de estratégias e políticas públicas que visem não apenas a prevenção, mas também a sensibilização da sociedade para esta problemática. Além disso, ao trazer luz a este tema, pretende-se reforçar a dignidade e os direitos dos idosos, promovendo um envelhecimento verdadeiramente positivo, livre de ameaças e vulnerabilidades.
Violence against the elderly is a serious problem that requires attention and intervention from society. In this sense, it is essential that the community, together with public and private institutions, develop integrated and effective strategies to prevent, detect and combat such practices. Dignity and respect for aging must be central pillars in any self-respecting society. Fostering a culture of respect, empathy and appreciation for the older population is not only a duty, but also an indicator of a country's maturity and humanity. After all, we all aspire to reach an advanced age, and we must ensure that this phase of life is lived with tranquility, security and well-being. Despite all these principles and aspirations, it is regrettable and alarming to note that violence against this population has been occurring frequently, often in environments where they should feel more protected, such as their own homes or in institutions designated in your care. This paradox not only reveals flaws in support and protection structures, but also reflects the persistence of negative stereotypes and discriminatory attitudes towards aging. In this sense, this project proposes empirical work whose central objective is to understand and analyze the manifestations and consequences of violence against the elderly, both in institutional and domestic contexts. The relevance of this study lies in the urgency of unveiling and deepening the dynamics underlying these situations of violence, in order to provide a more effective and informed intervention. Through a deep understanding of these dynamics, we hope to contribute to the development of strategies and public policies that aim not only at prevention, but also at raising society's awareness of this issue. Furthermore, by bringing light to this topic, the aim is to reinforce the dignity and rights of the elderly, promoting truly positive aging, free from threats and vulnerabilities.
