O presente trabalho tem como principal objectivo chamar atenção para a importância da prática da Prevenção Primária, tão simples e eficiente, mas muitas vezes relegada para segundo plano pelo brilhantismo dos avanços técnicos, operatórios e reabilitadores da medicina dentária.
Com a intenção de comprovar o sucesso e aplicabilidade clínica da prevenção primária, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica que fundamenta com bases científicas, as vantagens e a efectividade da sua implementação. Pretende-se também dar relevo à importância da sua utilização na promoção de uma melhoria das condições de saúde oral e, consequentemente, da saúde geral. Neste sentido, são destacadas estratégias, que devem ser adoptadas no dia-a-dia do consultório de medicina dentária, com o intuito de empregar activamente as práticas da medicina dentária preventiva primária.
É importante que os médicos dentistas modifiquem a forma de abordagem das doenças orais mais prevalentes no mundo e que consigam ver mais além das suas consequências, promovendo a sua prevenção, e assim, promovendo a saúde geral e melhorando a qualidade de vida da população. The present review has as main objective draw the attention alerting for the importance of practicing of Primary Prevention, simple and efficient, but often relegated to background by the brilliance of the technical advances, surgical and rehabilitative of dental medicine.
With intention to prove the clinical applicability and the success of primary prevention, was conducted a bibliographic research that supports with scientific basis, the advantages and the effectiveness of their implementation. It is also intended to emphasize the importance of their use to promote an improvement of the dental health and therefore the general health. In this sense, are emphasized strategies, which must be adopted daily on the of the dental medicine office, with the intention of an active use of the proceedings of the primary preventive dental care.
It is important that dentists change the way they approach the most prevalent oral disease in the world and that they can look beyond of their consequences by promoting the prevention, and therefore promoting the general health and improving the quality of life of people.
