A violência obstétrica e a violência de género: a desumanização do corpo feminino

Este projeto de graduação aborda a temática da Violência Obstétrica, como uma forma de violência baseada no género, por afetar desproporcionalmente pessoas do sexo feminino, especialmente mulheres. A Violência Obstétrica consiste nos danos infligidos por profissionais de saúde à pessoa do sexo feminino e à sua família, em relação aos cuidados de saúde sexuais e reprodutivos, a gravidez, parto, puerpério e abortamento. São abordadas as diversas formas da Violência Obstétrica, desde a violência física até a violência institucional. Num primeiro momento é apresentado um enquadramento teórico, nomeando momentos na história onde é possível identificar a Violência Obstétrica, desde comportamentos violentas durante a escravatura até as práticas contemporâneas. É explorado como esta põe em causa os direitos das pessoas gestantes e apresentadas as organizações que combatem este fenómeno. Também é realizada uma contextualização do fenómeno em Portugal e no resto do mundo através da análise de diferentes estudos desenvolvidos neste âmbito. Por fim, é apresentada uma proposta de investigação, com o objetivo de compreender melhor as especificidades deste o fenómeno e das suas vítimas em Portugal, sendo criado um inquérito por questionário de forma a serem recolhidos os dados necessários. São apresentados os resultados esperados tendo em conta literatura analisada e as possíveis limitações da proposta. A consciencialização acerca do fenómeno da Violência Obstétrica é o principal objetivo deste projeto, permitindo a criação de mais estudos neste sentido, resultando num maior entendimento acerca desta temática em Portugal e permitindo trabalhar para a sua prevenção através de programas de intervenção, formações disponibilizadas aos profissionais de saúde e campanhas de divulgação e educação sobre os direitos das pessoas gestantes.
This graduation project addresses the theme of Obstetric Violence as a form of gender-based violence, disproportionately affecting individuals assigned female at birth, especially women. Obstetric Violence refers to the harm inflicted by healthcare professionals on individuals assigned female at birth and their families, related to sexual and reproductive healthcare, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and abortion. The various forms of Obstetric Violence, from physical violence to institutional violence, are discussed. A theoretical framework is initially presented, naming moments in history where Obstetric Violence can be identified, ranging from violent behaviors during slavery to contemporary practices. It explores how this phenomenon challenges the rights of pregnant individuals and introduces organizations combating this issue. The phenomenon is contextualized in Portugal and the rest of the world through the analysis of different studies developed in this subject. Lastly, a research proposal is presented with the aim of better understanding the specifics of this phenomenon and its victims in Portugal. A questionnaire survey is designed to collect necessary data. The expected results are presented based on the analyzed literature, along with possible limitations of the proposal. Raising awareness about Obstetric Violence is the main objective of this project, allowing for more studies in this direction, resulting in a greater understanding of this issue in Portugal, enabling work towards its prevention through intervention programs, training provided to healthcare professionals, and awareness campaigns and education on the rights of pregnant individuals.
