Neste projeto de Graduação, com base na obra de pesquisa Por Dentro do Chega, escrita por Miguel Carvalho (2025), que se fundamenta em milhares de documentos inéditos e entrevistas exclusivas com fundadores, dirigentes, ex-dirigentes, militantes e ex-militantes do partido, assim como com antigos integrantes da sua estrutura, são analisadas as dinâmicas internas do partido Chega, incluindo laços com nostalgias salazaristas, financiamento opaco, contradições programáticas e táticas de polarização e manipulação da mídia.
O trabalho evidencia ainda a forma como o Chega capitaliza o descontentamento social e a desconfiança nas instituições, contribuindo para a fragmentação do sistema partidário e para o agravamento da polarização política em Portugal. Particular destaque é dado à crescente influência do partido junto dos jovens, através do uso intensivo de plataformas digitais como o TikTok, com protagonismo de figuras como Rita Matias e a inspiração em modelos internacionais de populismo de direita radical, como Javier Milei.
Conclui-se, assim, que o Chega constitui um caso paradigmático do populismo de direita radical contemporâneo em Portugal, cujas origens, estratégias comunicacionais e impactos colocam desafios significativos à qualidade da democracia, tornando necessárias respostas estruturais ao mal-estar social, à precariedade e à disseminação da desinformação no espaço digital.
In this Graduation Project, based on the research work Por Dentro do Chega by Miguel Carvalho (2025), which draws on thousands of unpublished documents and exclusive interviews with the party’s founders, leaders, former leaders, militants, former militants, and past members of its organizational structure, the internal dynamics of the Chega party are examined. These include links to Salazarist nostalgia, opaque financing, programmatic contradictions, and tactics of polarization and media manipulation. The study further highlights how Chega capitalizes on social discontent and distrust in institutions, contributing to the fragmentation of the party system and the intensification of political polarization in Portugal. Particular attention is given to the party’s growing influence among young people, achieved through the intensive use of digital platforms such as TikTok, with prominent figures like Rita Matias, as well as inspiration drawn from international models of radical right populism, such as Javier Milei. It is thus concluded that Chega constitutes a paradigmatic case of contemporary radical right populism in Portugal, whose origins, communication strategies, and political impacts pose significant challenges to the quality of democracy. This situation underscores the need for structural responses to social malaise, precarity, and the spread of disinformation in the digital sphere.
