Abstract(s)
A utilidade do programa On
We are living turbulent times from a social point of view resulting form a deep crisis that affects most of the world’s economies. Corporate Social Responsibility has gained prominence and importance for the community, since companies’s social practices can fill the existing gaps. This research is focused on a company more than hundred years old that operates in the area of information technologies, IBM. We developed a case study that aims to examine how volunteering practiced by IBM through the ‘On Demand Community’ program, impacts on its employees and its beneficiaries. The research is based upon a literature review covering the major issues of social responsibility and volunteering. The empirical part consist of a case study in which IBM employees were interviewed and beneficiaries of the ‘On Demand Community’ volunteer program with adherence to the grants program answered a questionnaire. The data collection was carried out in several stages for which were developed different scripts, taking into account the objectives defined for each step. The grants program is a donation from the company to the beneficiaries of volunteering practiced by IBM employees. The collected data reveals that IBM influences the voluntary practice of its employees, since it provides a set of conditions that facilitate such practice. Another point to be highlighted is related to the assigned benefits (grants) given by the company to the beneficiary entities according to the number of volunteer hours recorded by employees. These benefits are recognized as an asset by the beneficiary entities since donations from IBM, independently of being in money, reinforce the company’s image.
