Abstract(s)
Objectives: The study aimed to assess the level of dental anxiety (DA) from the perspective of children and parents, analyzing whether the DA of parents and their children may be associated, and comparing the results between Portugal and France. Methods and Materials: A research with quantitative methodology was carried out, through the application of two questionnaires, in two languages - Portuguese (in Portugal) and French (in France). The Corah Anxiety Scale was applied to parents and children between 5 and 12 years old; in the part of the questionnaire dedicated to children, The Facial Image Scale was adopted, for a better understanding. The questionnaires were applied online via Google Forms and institutional emails. Results: We obtained 152 valid questionnaires, 77 from parents and children in Portugal and 75 from parents and children in France. The results revealed that 5.2% of the parents have high DA in Portugal and 25.3% in France; 13% of the children have high DA in Portugal and 18.7% in France. Spearman's correlation values showed that the parents' DA is significantly associated with the children's DA in both countries. Conclusions: The DA tends to increase when the patient is in the dental chair. There is no significant difference in DA between children in Portugal and France. On the contrary, parents in France signal significantly higher levels of DA than parents in Portugal.
