Abstract(s)
Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of the use of enamel matrix proteins (Emdogain®) in infra-bony defects, regarding the periodontal regeneration. Materials and Methods: We carried out a bibliographic search using the PubMed database. The selection was based on articles of systematic review and meta-analysis, in the last 10 years based on human beings and published in English or Portuguese. The research resulted in a total of 7 articles. Results: The treatment of infra-bony defects with enamel matrix proteins (Emdogain®), alone or in combination therapy, shows scientific evidence on the reduction of probing depth, gain of clinical insertion level and bone filling. However, some heterogeneity of results is still associated. Conclusion: The enamel matrix proteins are presented as a valid alternative to the treatment of infra-bony defects. However, more studies are needed in order to allow guidelines elaboration, based on high scientific evidence.
