Abstract(s)
Background: Pelvic floor rehabilitation techniques have been used as an addiction to traditional treatments in patients with rectal cancer. Objective: verify the effectiveness of physiotherapy on pelvic floor function in fecal incontinence, life quality, LARS symptoms and rectal function in pre/postoperative patients with rectal cancer. Methodology: A computer search in Pubmed and PEDro, to identify randomized controlled studies that evaluated the effectiveness of pelvic floor rehabilitation in pre and post-operative patients with rectal cancer. The PEDro scale was used to assess the methodological quality of the selected articles. The search strategy followed the PRISMA flowchart. Results: This literature review included 8 randomized controlled studies that included a total of 441 participants of both sexes. The methodological quality was in average 7,3/10 on the PEDro scale. Conclusion: We can conclude that pelvic floor rehabilitation techniques have benefits in the management of several adverse effects resulting from post-rectal cancer surgery.
