Abstract(s)
Stress is, a topic which practically everybody has heard of in one way or another, be it in the social media, be it in a dialogue with friends or family members or even somewhere else. Several authors describe stress as being the body’s answer external factors. Addressing this subject, the student opted to investigate it, more specifically, attempting to establish stress and the possible influence it has on daily eating habits of some informal caretakers of substance dependent people. For that subject, the student used as a starting point a question: “How does stress alter the daily eating habits of informal caretakers of substance dependent people?”. The student for this research study used a exploratory-descriptive methodology. For the elaboration of the study database, a questionnaire as performed on 20 informal caretakers of substance dependent people in the region of Porto, starting on February and ending on June 2015. The main factors that cause stress on caretakers are the time they have to set aside to taking watching over the people at their care e also their own economic situation. According to the study, these are the two factors that are most referenced by the caretakers as the cause of everyday stress. These are the stress inducing factors which may alter the eating habits of the caretakers who say they don’t have a balanced diet or that they only have 3 or less meals per day. The caretakers that reference doing 3 or less meals per day cite as the main reason the lack of appetite or the lack of time to have the meals, which leads to think that stress caused by these reasons leads to the lost of some appetite by some caretakers and not enough time to have a higher number of meals to others.
