Abstract(s)
Occlusal splints can be used as a therapeutic option to reduce the consequences of bruxism. In recent years, fabrication techniques for occlusal splint, have evolved considerably with technological advances and the development of CAD/CAM technologies in dentistry. Nowadays the digitalization allows objects to be produced subtractively or additively using specialized machines. The aim of this review of the literature is to explain and describe the different techniques for making occlusal splints available by now., and compare each one with the others. In the studies reviewed, it was found that occlusal splints made using additive and subtractive techniques had good properties compared to splints made in the conventional way, which is the gold standard for the moment. Further in vivo studies are needed to confirm these promising results.
