As doenças cardiovasculares (DCV) representam a principal causa de morte em países desenvolvidos. Diversos
factores, uns controláveis e outros não controláveis, estão
envolvidos no seu aparecimento e progressão. Hoje em
dia, as apolipoproteínas (apo) têm vindo a ser consideradas indicadores eficazes na previsão de DCV. Uma destas
apoproteínas é a apo (a) que sendo estruturalmente
homóloga do plasminogénio, é considerada aterogénica.
Nível elevado desta apoproteína e consequentemente da
lipoproteína (a) é considerado um importante índice de
risco para DCV, independente de outros factores.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in developed countries. Several factors, some controllable and other not possible to control, are involved in its development and progression. Nowadays, apolipoproteins (apo) are being considered effective indicators in CVD prediction. One of these apolipoproteins is apo (a) that being structurally homologous to plasminogen, is considered atherogenic. High level of this apoprotein and consequently of lipoprotein (a) is considered an important risk index for CVD, that is independent from other risk factors.
