Pedido de ajuda em vítimas de violência no namoro: das barreiras, motivações e fontes de revelação

| dc.description.abstract | A investigação internacional e nacional na área da violência nas relações de namoro tem experimentado um crescimento notável durante os últimos anos. Contudo, tem-se ignorado o estudo do pedido de ajuda das vítimas desta problemática. A presente dissertação de mestrado procura dar um contributo neste sentido, estando dividida em dois artigos científicos. O primeiro artigo retrata uma revisão sistemática da literatura onde foram analisados 19 artigos com enfoque nas barreiras para revelação das vítimas, nas fontes de revelação informais e formais e na avaliação das vítimas relativamente a estas fontes. Assim, verificou-se que o número de artigos em que as vítimas privilegiram o pedido de ajuda foi superior aos artigos em que as vítimas reportaram uma não revelação. Quando existe efetivamente um pedido de ajuda os jovens tendem a revelar a violência junto de fontes informais, destacando-se a preferência pelos amigos. As raparigas têm maior propensão a revelar a situação abusiva e a oferecer ajuda em comparação aos rapazes. O segundo artigo versa sobre um estudo empírico, de caráter qualitativo, com 13 vítimas de violência no namoro com a finalidade de compreender os fatores inerentes ao pedido de ajuda e os que interferem com a revelação da situação abusiva junto das fontes formais e informais. Os participantes identificaram várias barreiras para procurar ajuda (e.g., ameaças, medo de perder o parceiro, sentimento de vergonha, não reconhecer o abuso); as vítimas tendem a procurar ajuda mais informal (e.g., familiares, amigos, irmãos) em vez de ajuda formal (e.g., órgãos de polícia criminal, professores, profissionais de saúde); a preferência por uma fonte informal para ajudar é justificada pela maior disponibilidade, pelo facto de algumas fontes conhecerem e testemunharem a violência no namoro e pela maior consciencialização da situação; os participantes também identificaram uma série de reações sociais, a maioria das quais foi interpretada pelas vítimas como uma reação social positiva (e.g., apoio emocional, pedido de ajuda formal). Em conclusão, os esforços para prevenir ou intervir na VN devem reforçar a necessidade de aumentar o comportamento de pedidos de ajuda por parte das vítimas deste tipo de abuso, bem como divulgar juntos dos jovens os diversos serviços formais existentes de modo a ser providenciado um melhor tratamento e acompanhamento à vítima de VN. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Both national and international academic research regarding the subject of relationship violence has seen a great increase in recent years. However, the specific subject of help seeking in regard to the victims has been largely neglected. This dissertation tries to make a contribution in this sense, being divided in two scientific articles. The first article presents a systematic review of the literature in which 19 articles were analyzed focusing on the barriers to disclosure of victims, informal and formal sources of information, and the evaluation of victims regarding these sources. Thus, it was found that the number of articles that were victims of aid applications was higher than the articles in which the victims reported a search for aid. Questions are available to help young people tend to turn up at informational sources, becoming a preference for friends. As boys are more likely to reveal an abusive situation and help compared to boys. The second article is about a qualitative empirical study with 13 victims of dating violence, with the purpose of understanding the data related to the request for help and the problems with revealing the abusive situation with formal and informal sources. In terms of outcomes, participants identified several barriers for seeking help (i.e., threats, fear of losing partner, feeling of shame, not recognizing abuse); victims tend to seek more informal help (i.e., family, friends, siblings) rather than formal help (i.e., police, teachers, health professionals); the preference for an informal source to help is justified by the greater availability, the fact that some sources know and witness dating violence and the greater awareness of the situation; participants also identified a number of social reactions, most of which were interpreted by the victims as a positive social reaction (i.e., emotional support, seeking formal help). In conclusion, efforts to prevent or intervene in DV relationships should reinforce the need to increase the seeking help behavior of DV victims as well as disseminate together the various formal services available to young people so as to provide better treatment and follow-up for the victim of dating violence. | pt_PT |
