Abstract(s)
The aim of the present study was to discuss the aspects relative to the orthodontic treatment in root-filled teeth, covering the implications of the orthodontic movement in the healing of lesions, the need for treatment, the risks involved, the type of mechanics to be used and the timing for performing it. The methodology consisted of a literature review, for which full-text articles on the subject were selected, in English and Portuguese language, available in the PubMed and BVS (Virtual Health Library) databases. External apical root resorption é a concern of orthodontists on planning to intervene mechanically in root-filled teeth. The orthodontic movement causes periodontal and pulp effects considered normal and reversible when the underlying teeth and tissues present integrity and the forces are not excessive. However, it is necessary to understand its effects on root-filled teeth before to move them orthodontically.
