Abstract(s)
Paris, as place, is fictional. It stands as a total re-creation, if not an invention, largely the work of a single man, a man of the bar and a politician (and thus a rhetorician), that produced a conscious and articulate urban discourse – as persuasive as it was fallacious – on what Paris was supposed to be and proceeded to make it so: the Baron Haussmann. This paper is a linguistic analysis of that formulation.
