A Erupção Passiva Alterada (EPA), é uma condição não patológica, caracterizada por coroas clínicas curtas e quadradas e pela exposição de mais de 3 mm de gengiva maxilar durante o sorriso, o que leva à sua designação como inestético, além de ser um fator de risco potencial para o desenvolvimento da doença periodontal. A EPA classifica-se em dois tipos (I e II), com base na localização da junção mucogengival em relação à crista óssea alveolar, e ainda em dois subtipos (A e B) com base na posição da crista óssea alveolar em relação à junção amelocementária. O diagnóstico é fundamental para que se possa identificar a classe a que pertence, possibilitando assim a hipótese de se estabelecer um plano de tratamento adequado, visando restabelecer o espaço biológico, eliminar a excessiva exposição gengival e expor a correta dimensão dos dentes afetados, melhorando a estética do sorriso do paciente e a sua higiene oral.
Altered Passive Eruption (APE) is a non-pathological condition, characterized by short and square clinical crowns and by the exposure of more than 3 mm of maxillary gingiva during a smile, which leads to its designation as unaesthetic, in addition to being a factor potential risk for the development of periodontal disease. EPA is classified into two types (I and II) based on the location of the mucogingival junction in relation to the alveolar bone crest, and further into two subtypes (A and B) based on the position of the alveolar bone crest in relation to the amelocementary junction. The diagnosis is fundamental to identify the class to which it belongs, thus allowing the possibility of establishing an adequate treatment plan, aiming to restore the biological space, eliminate excessive gingival exposure and expose the correct size of the affected teeth, improving aesthetics of the patient's smile and oral hygiene.
