A endocardite bacteriana (eb) é uma infecção microbiana das válvulas cardíacas ou de outro tecido do endocárdio, geralmente relacionada com uma lesão cardíaca subjacente, associando- se a uma morbilidade e mortalidade significativas. existem várias guidelines para a profilaxia da eb sempre que se executem intervenções médicas invasivas ou procedimentos médico dentários. A American Heart Association publicou em 1997 a sua última revisão sobre o tema. este artigo aludirá às patologias sistémicas do paciente, grupos de risco, os regimes terapêuticos e respectivas interacções farmacológicas. the bacterial endocarditis (be) is a microbial infection in cardiac valves or other endocardic tissue, related to an undergoing cardiac lesion, with a significant morbidity and mortality. there are several guidelines for the be prophylaxis whenever medical procedures are invasive or if there are any dental procedures. the American Heart Association its last review about this theme in 1997. this article will focus on the systemic pathology of the patient, risk groups, therapeutic regimes and pharmacological interactions.
