Perceções dos jovens trans e dos seus pais sobre as vivências em contextos escolar e social

| dc.description.abstract | Diversos estudos, ao longo dos anos, têm vindo a demonstrar que a população trans é uma das mais atingidas pelo preconceito, bullying e discriminação em diversos contextos. São inúmeros os estudos existentes sobre os jovens trans em contextos educacional e social, no entanto, a nível nacional o número de estudos diminui sendo a literatura acerca da temática bastante escassa. A presente dissertação visa descrever as experiências e vivências ocorridas em contextos escolar e social vividas por jovens trans, bem como a perceção por parte dos pais destes jovens. Assim sendo, foram efetuadas dez entrevistas estruturadas, seis delas a dois jovens trans do género feminino, quatro a jovens trans do género masculino e quatro a pais desses mesmos jovens. Neste grupo, uma entrevista foi efetuada a um pai e as restastes às mães desses mesmos jovens. O tratamento dos dados foi realizado através da Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin e a discussão dos resultados foi realizado com base no estado da arte pesquisado sobre o fenómeno. Os resultados demonstram que são várias as situações onde é relatada discriminação, preconceito ou bullying por parte dos participantes, com base na sua identidade de género, em diferentes contextos. É demonstrado também que o processo de coming out é vivenciado quer pelos pais quer pelos jovens juntamente a níveis elevados de stress, ansiedade, medo e sentimentos de perda. Os pais participantes no presente estudo, na sua maioria, demonstram não terem conhecimento de situações onde os filhos são vítimas de qualquer tipo de discriminação ou preconceito. Impedimento de acesso direto à população, amostra reduzida de participantes e escassez de literatura sobre a temática foram algumas limitações que acompanharam o presente estudo. Espera-se em investigações futuras poder ser desenvolvido um programa de intervenção a realizar nas escolas com o objetivo de esclarecimento da temática da transexualidade no referido contexto. Espera-se também que futuramente possa ser possível realizar uma investigação sobre a temática com um maior número de participantes e de forma mais aprofundada. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The trans population is among those who are most impacted by prejudice, bullying, and discrimination in various circumstances, according to several studies conducted over the years. Studies on trans young people are widely available in educational and social contexts, but the amount of research on the subject is fairly limited at the national level. The current master's thesis seeks to depict the educational and social experiences of young transgender persons as well as the parents' perceptions of these experiences. For this same reason, the qualitative technique was chosen as a means of hearing about the experiences firsthand. by the participants and using this to determine whether they have already experienced bias or discrimination in the circumstances mentioned, as well as the effects of those encounters. Ten structured interviews were therefore conducted, six of them with two transgender juveniles who were female, four with transgender youth who were male, and four with the parents of these same youngsters. One interview with a father and the remaining ones with the moms of these same young people were conducted with this group. Bardin's Content Analysis was used to treat the data, and discussions of the findings were based on the most recent studies on the subject. The findings demonstrate that participants have reported several instances of discrimination, prejudice, or bullying based on their gender identification in various contexts. It has also been shown that the coming out process causes both parents and children to feel a great deal of stress, anxiety, dread, fellings of lost. The majority of the parents who took part in this study show that they are unaware of any instances in which their kids are the targets of bias or discrimination of any kind. The present study has some limitations due to the difficulty in gaining direct access to the people, the small sample size, and the paucity of relevant literature. Future focused efforts are being made to create an intervention program in schools with the goal of elucidating the transsexuality issue there. Additionally, it is envisaged that in the future it would be feasible to carry out study on the subject with a larger sample size and in greater detail. | pt_PT |
