| dc.description.abstract | A progressão e evolução tumoral está intimamente relacionada com a inflamação e respetiva resposta imune do hospedeiro. É sabido que os neutrófilos se encontram envolvidos na resposta inflamatória pro-tumoral e os linfócitos na resposta imune anti-tumoral. A investigação do cancro tem-se focado na caracterização de marcadores que estejam prontamente disponíve is, sejam pouco dispendiosos e que tenham o potencial de identificar pacientes com alto risco de recorrência e morte por doença. A relação neutrófilo/linfócito tem sido relatada como um fator de prognóstico independente e valioso para diferentes neoplasias como cancro do esófago, gástrico e colorretal. Esta revisão bibliográfica pretende compreender a importância da relação neutrófilo/linfócito no cancro oral e perceber qual a utilidade para o médico dentista. Foi realizada uma revisão da literatura através das bases de dados PubMed, Scielo e B-on entre fevereiro e março de 2018. Assim, e uma vez que é um teste prático, barato e de fácil obtenção, seria uma mais valia a sua introdução na prática clínica corrente. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The tumor evolution and progression is intimately related with the inflammation and host’s immune response. It’s known that the neutrophils are involved in the pro-tumoral inflamma tor y response and lymphocytes are involved in the anti-tumoral immune response. The cancer investigation has focused on characterizing markers that are easily available, inexpensive, and that have the potential to identify patients with high risk of recurrence and death from disease. The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio has been reported as an independent and valuable prognostic factor for different neoplasms such as oesophageal, gastric and colorectal cancer. The aim of this bibliographic revision was to understand the importance of the relation neutrophil to lymphoc yte in the oral cancer and to understand the usefulness for the dentist. It was made a revision of the literature using the data bases PubMed, Scielo and B-on between February and March 2018. Thus, and once it is a practical test, inexpensive and easy to obtain, it would add value to its introduct ion in current clinical practice. | pt_PT |
