Abstract(s)
Parenting practices and school performance are crucial issues in the development of an individual, especially at school. The literature shows that parental attitudes are linked to the moral and social learning of each household. These experiences and learnings are passed on to the children of each generation during their development. For this reason, the main objective is to observe the impact of parenting practices in the school context and, more specifically, to characterize the parenting styles, practices and techniques exercised on young people and, finally, to determine the impact of these behaviours on young people's school performance. The research protocol consisted of the following instruments: Socio-demographic Questionnaire, to initially obtain the household's socio-demographic data and, subsequently, to obtain information about the youngsters' school performance, in order to understand how well the parents are aware of their school life; Questionnaire of Parenting Styles and Dimensions (QEDP) - Reduced Version, the application of this questionnaire aims to assess the parenting styles of the fathers, mothers, legal representatives and guardians of the children selected for this study and, finally, Alabama Parenting Questionnaire, as a way of assessing parenting, discipline and supervision. The results of this research may suggest that there should be a deeper look at risk factors in order to intervene in the causality of school failure and subsequently create an intervention plan aimed at this population.
