Resumo(s)
A Esclerose Lateral Amiotrófica é uma doença neurodegenerativa, de evolução rápida,
que enfraquece e paralisa os músculos, conduzindo à morte. Afecta a fala (articulação verbal-
oral, voz e respiração), motricidade orofacial e deglutição. Desta forma, a intervenção
do terapeuta da fala é fundamental para manter e maximizar essas funções, assim como
para ajudar o paciente e a sua família a compreender e a lidar com cada etapa da doença. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease, rapidly progressive, causing
weakness with a wide range of disabilities leading to death. It affects speech, respiration,
orofacial motricity, and swallowing. The intervention of speech therapist is crucial to preserve
and maximize such functions and to help the patient and his family to understand
and deal with each stage of this disease.
