Abstract(s)
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, debilitating and unpredictable disease character, and the progression through the disease originates physical, psychological and even social problems, which in turn will have impact on quality of life (QL) of patients. Thus, the present study, Quality of Life in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis, aims to know the perception of QL of patients with MS, as well as gaining knowledge while investigating and deepen knowledge on the subject in question. The sample of this research consisted of 15 people, and had as inclusion criteria, being MS patient and understanding present capacity for completing the survey. The selection procedure passed the network investigation method, or from a known and familiar case was possible to have access to the other participants. To carry out the research we used a data collection instrument entitled: Quality of Life Questionnaire, comprising Part I - Characterization of the sample and Part II - MOS SF-36V2 (Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health-surve) to the authors of the original version John Ware Jr, Cathy Sherbourne and translated to Portuguese by Pedro Lopes Ferreira (2000). The results show that the shape of Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (for attacks) is the most frequent in the sample and is the one in which their carriers have better quality of life. The fields that make up the SF-36v2 are the Bodily Pain, Vitality and Social Aspects that have lower values associated with poor quality of life.
