Abstract(s)
Objetivos: Este estudo pretende avaliar os motivos pelas quais as crianças, hoje em dia, procuram o odontopediatra pela primeira vez. E por outro lado, permitir saber se a informação que existe disponível é suficiente para que os pais entendam o quão importante é a ida ao consultório dentário numa idade precoce.
Métodos: A amostra deste estudo foi constituída por 30 responsáveis de crianças, que procuraram a consulta de odontopediatria numa clínica de medicina dentária, no distrito do Porto. Foi utilizado um questionário com 10 perguntas e esses dados foram inseridos e analisados no programa Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
Resultados: A idade da primeira consulta de medicina dentária teve uma maior percentagem entre os 4 e os 6 anos de idade e apenas 3,3% realizaram a consulta até completarem 1 ano de idade. O principal motivo foi prevenção num total de 46,7% seguindo-se o motivo de doença cárie dentária com 23,3%, rotina (10,0%), com percentagens equivalentes (6,7%) traumatismo e alterações dentárias, dor e outros motivos (3,3%) e por fim situações de urgência (0%). Durante a gravidez, cerca de metade da população não tinha recebido qualquer tipo de informação.
Conclusões: Foi possível verificar que o principal motivo foi prevenção. Contudo as informações disponíveis ainda não são suficientes e conclui-se que há ainda um longo caminho a percorrer nesta área.
Objectives: This study intends to evaluate the reasons why children, today, seek the pediatric dentist for the first time. And, on the other hand, allow´s to know if the information available is enough for the parents to understand how important it is to go to the dental office at an early age. Methods: The sample of this study consisted of 30 children, who seartch the consultation of pediatric dentistry in a dental clinic in the district of Porto. A questionnaire with 10 questions was used and these data were inserted and analyzed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. Results: The age of the dental practice had a higher incidence between 4 and 6 years of age and only 3.3% had a consultation until the age of 1 year. The main reason was the total numeric prevention of 46.7% with dental dentition tracing with 23.3%, routine (10.0%), with equivalent percentages (6.7%) traumatism and dental changes, pain and other reasons (3.3%) and finally emergency situations (0%). During pregnancy, about half of the population had no information at all. Conclusions: It was possible to verify that the main reason was prevention. However, the information available is not yet sufficient and it is concluded that there is still a long way to go in this area.
